Social Media in the Caribbean: A Platform-by-Platform Breakdown

The most expensive social media mistake a Caribbean brand can make is treating all platforms the same. Each platform has a distinct audience, content format, and purpose — and the Caribbean versions of those audiences are more distinct than most global benchmarks suggest.

Instagram: Brand Discovery and High-Intent Audiences

Instagram remains the dominant discovery platform for Caribbean consumers — particularly in Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica, and the Eastern Caribbean. Feed content builds brand affinity; Reels drive discovery; Stories maintain proximity. The accounts that perform best post consistently across all three formats and use DMs as a conversion channel.

Facebook: Community, Events, and 30+ Audiences

Facebook's organic reach is low everywhere in 2026. But it remains the primary platform for Caribbean audiences over 35 — particularly for local community groups, event promotion, and real estate. If you're a local service business, Facebook Groups and event pages are still worth the effort.

Never abandon Facebook because it feels 'old'. In most Caribbean markets, Facebook still holds the most commercially active audience segment — particularly B2C businesses serving 35–55 year olds.

LinkedIn: B2B and Professional Services

LinkedIn is underused by Caribbean businesses — and that's an opportunity. If you're in professional services, financial services, consulting, real estate, or technology, LinkedIn is where your buyers are spending attention. Founder voice content consistently outperforms corporate page posts.

TikTok: Discovery at Scale for Consumer Brands

TikTok is the fastest-growing platform in the Caribbean and the strongest organic discovery tool for consumer brands. The key is native content — built for the platform's rhythm, sound-on, and algorithmic surface. Brands that win on TikTok think like media companies, not advertisers.

How to Choose Your Channels

Start where your highest-value customers already spend time — not where you're most comfortable creating. Audit where your best past customers found you. Review platform demographics against your audience profile. Start on two platforms and do them properly before expanding to four.

Two platforms done well will outperform six platforms done badly, every time. Platform selection is strategy — not ambition.
